What’s A Fellow?… Not a Fella.

August 17, 2023

Last week at the National Society for Marketing Professional Services Conference, SMPS Amplify, I had the honor of being recognized as one of sixteen Fellows for 2023. When I first joined the society, I didn’t have an understanding of what an SMPS Fellow was or all the acronyms associated with our industry.

So what exactly is an SMPS Fellow?

An SMPS Fellow is an outstanding individual who has made exceptional contributions to the profession of marketing and business development in the architectural, engineering, and construction industries as well as SMPS itself. A Fellow often serves as a resource to their chapter and society; providing insight, ideas, programs, and mentoring support. In addition, the individual teaches, writes, and speaks on marketing issues outside of SMPS, working to advance the profession of marketing professional services throughout the A/E/C industry.

Of the 7,500 SMPS members, only 132 of them have achieved Fellow status. Members who have 15 years’ experience as a marketer and/or business developer in the A/E/C industry, have been an active SMPS member for 10 of the previous 15 consecutive years, and who have held a current Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) designation for a minimum of five years are eligible to apply for the SMPS Fellows Recognition Program.

I have been in marketing and business development in the A/E/C industry for over 18 years and an active SMPS member since 2017 where I was a founding member of SMPS Wichita. During this time, I have served in many leadership roles and have made significant contributions to the growth and success of the SMPS Wichita Chapter, Ozarks Chapter and Missouri Valley Regional Conference (MVRC). In addition to SMPS, I have been actively involved in many other industry associations including:

  • AGC of Kansas
  • Associated Builders and Contractors of Arkansas
  • Associated General Contractors of America Business Development Council
  • NAWIC Greater Wichita #120 Chapter
  • NAWIC Northwest Arkansas Chapter
  • Urban Land Institute and Women Leadership Initiative
  • Women in Commercial Real Estate (Wichita)

My passion for marketing innovation and achievement is evident in my desire to advance the profession by sharing my industry knowledge with others. I have presented almost fifty times at the local, regional and national level through various industry conferences, webinars, and programs. I believe mentoring, educating, and training others in the A/E/C industry is instrumental to employee engagement and the growth of our firms.

As a Fellow, I look forward to giving my time and talents and becoming a key leader for the next generation.
