Are you Utilizing ChatGPT?

I have been doing some research — both through Google and in conversations with others — about ChatGPT. Essentially, it’s an artificial intelligence software that can generate instructions and write content. There’s no doubt it’s going to change the way marketers and everyone else in business operate. I don’t think ChatGPT going to replace people, but rather give us more capacity as an industry that is already short-staffed.

There are some advantages and disadvantages that I have discovered so far, both from -my own experience and from others’ experiences.

Advantages

  1. Saves you time. It can produce decent content in a short amount of time. I was surprised how quickly the content was produced after I asked for the information. It’s also great for answering frequently asked questions.
  2. Less is more. With the current workforce, it’s difficult to find enough talent. Utilizing ChatGPT will allow employees to focus on strategy and other complex tasks, while allowing artificial intelligence to do the more mundane tasks.
  3. If you have a couple of quick thoughts or bullet points, it will help you get your creative juices flowing. It gets content out of your brain and on to paper.
  4. Fast answers. It produces answers to questions quickly and with instructions. The information is displayed in an easy-to-read format.
  5. Currently, ChatGPT is free to use. There is a paid version available, but not many people are using it. As it becomes more popular, I would assume more people will start paying for this service because the free version may take a while to get answers back quickly.
  6. Human-like. The answers you receive back would be something you’d expect from a human. Unlike Google where you just get a results page of websites to sift through, ChatGPT gives you the information in a conversational format and makes it easy to get your answer quickly.

Disadvantages

  1. Not Perfect. The content it produces is close, but you’ll still need to change 10-20% of the content as it won’t be accurate or might not apply to what you are writing. It’s very generic. I have only tried ChatGPT with basic information and nothing SUPER technical yet.
  2. Not Specific. You can direct it to write certain content, but you can’t be specific in asking individual names or companies. If you do, it doesn’t produce any content.
  3. Security issues. Information technology (IT personnel) have concerns about employees using it because of security issues. This is geared around someone accessing the company servers/files/software/etc.
  4. Data Breach. ChatGPT keeps all the information/data you entered in its own database system to use for similar requests from other users. This could be an issue if you are entering something that is proprietary to your firm. You must be careful when entering information you don’t want to be public.

ChatGPT is going to change the way we do business. It will allow us to utilize the talent we have in our industry, enabling them to focus their efforts on being more strategic. We must embrace this latest technology and be aware of its advantages and disadvantages. I’m still learning about this artificial intelligence software and how I can help my clients use it to enhance and grow their businesses. You should do the same. Let me know how your firm is using ChatGPT and the pros and cons from your experience. Be cautious, but know this is way of our future!
